Writers write personal journals as an affirmation of existence. They are objective proof of the passage of one individual through time. Keeping them past death is a statement of desire: that life that was lived as described in those pages should be remembered by someone. It sounds to me that the person who wrote those pages no longer exists. Do you want someone -- anyone -- to know that person?
