As usual, Rocco has something important to say. Let me add one additional thought: many people do not think of themselves as being a business. Truth be told, each of us is in the business of maximizing our earning potential. We can do that "better" by acquiring/using skills that are of a higher value to (i) our current employer; (ii) our next employer; or (iii) ourselves. When we think about work in this way, we recognize that work is a transactional exchange in which we should be active participants. Put another way, when it comes to money, we always have to asking ourselves, "is this situation/circumstance/job/opportunity [still] good for me?"
